Get in touch with UD Packaging Company
The best strapping seal manufacturers include Signode for established tool families, Krishca for detailed steel-seal specifications, and Leicatex for serrated closure options. This guide compares 20 producers by the seals they make, their published production capabilities and the orders they suit. Start with the strap and joining tool: a familiar company name or matching nominal width can’t establish compatibility.
Disclosure: This guide is published by UD Packaging, a supplier of PET strapping, strapping seals, buckles and supporting equipment. This report provides comparison information for the top 20 industrial strap-seal manufacturers. UD Packaging is not included in the manufacturer ranking because its current public information does not establish in-house strapping-seal production. The 20 companies below were selected based on publicly verifiable seal-manufacturing capability.
- Best for existing Signode tool families: Signode. Its catalogue names closure designs and the applications they serve.
- Best for steel-seal dimensional comparisons: Krishca. Published tables distinguish joint type, length, seal gauge and strap width.
- Best for special seal materials and marking: Kippes. Its range includes copper, brass and V2A, with two-colour printing.
- McLean is an editorial pick for direct order quantities from one box to a truckload. The manufacturing facility will accept orders for one box, or a truckload.
- Best for herringbone serrated seals: Leicatex. Its catalogue combines the serration pattern with named seal codes.
- Best for own-brand galvanized seal packing: Venture Steel Group. Custom labels and barcodes accompany its pressed seal range.
How We Selected These Strapping Seal Manufacturers

Selection began with more than 30 candidates, then narrowed to companies with explicit evidence of consumable industrial strapping-seal manufacture. Company websites, including product and factory pages, and publicly available company documents and records, were reviewed. Information was compared with manufacturer web pages and other trusted sources, in September 2026.
Admission required more than a strapping catalogue. A producer’s own seal-manufacturing statement, identified press shop, forming process or production certificate helped establish its place. Distributors, marketplaces, buckle-only businesses and equipment suppliers without seal-production evidence were excluded. Group relationships also matter: MPS appears within Signode’s entry, and TITAN within P.W. Lenzen’s, so related operations don’t occupy extra places.
When comparing manufacturers, we considered the seal type, the manufacturing method, the width of the seal, the thickness, and the published quality controls. We considered the different industries in which these sealing systems will be used, as well as the service provided by the manufacturer. “Best for” represents our opinion as to the suitability of the product for a given application. The numbers are for the reader’s convenience. The numbered order doesn’t establish conclusions regarding comparative product quality. A given manufacturer may provide products for different applications, but may not provide a seal that’s suitable for a given application.
A strapping seal is the closure formed around a strap, and a sealer is a means to effect such closure. Buckles are closure elements through which straps may be threaded or looped. Strapping seals may be made of various materials, and ‘plastic’ strapping seals may be of metal. In the term ‘plastic strapping seal’, ‘plastic’ denotes the type of strap for which the closure is required.

Integrated Manufacturers of Steel Strapping Seals and Strapping Systems

These companies manufacture seals and other related consumables.
1. Signode: Best for matching proprietary seal families to Signode tools
Signode connects its seal range to named tool families, which makes it a useful starting point when a plant already operates Signode strapping systems. The group’s seal-manufacturing evidence includes MPS, its Turkish joint venture, whose product page describes producing steel seals with Signode technology. Microgrip adds internal grit for waxed steel strap, while Nestack is intended for specified magazine-fed applications. Buyers maintaining an established tool fleet can therefore start with the existing machine and seal code instead of choosing a closure by width alone.
- Headquarters / location: Tampa, Florida, USA. Founded: 1913.
- Company type: Industrial strapping-system manufacturer; MPS joint venture counted within this entry.
- Main seals: Snap-on, thread-on, open-flange, push-type, Microgrip and Nestack seals.

How to Choose a Strapping Seal Manufacturer for Steel, PET and PP Strapping

Choose a manufacturer of strapping seals based on the closure, strap, tools and joint performance you need. Compare commercial terms only after analysis. When overlapping strap ends are joined, the way the tool forms the seal helps define whether the joint is usable. A cheap strapping seal doesn’t benefit the company’s packing process if its joints aren’t allowable.
1. Define the strap material and dimensions first
List the type of PET, PP, or steel (regular or high tensile), the width and thickness of strap, and the supplier’s info on grade and surface condition. When ordering closure components, don’t use the term “Poly strap” as different seal geometries exist for polyester and polypropylene strap.
When specifying the seal, use separate fields for the different dimensions. A strap thickness that’s acceptably formed may be different from the thickness of the metal seal. The seal may not fit the forming tools or may not permit the desired strap overlap. For polyester closure systems, use the PET strapping specification to give the strap requirements to the closure manufacturer. Never approve a substitute solely because both boxes say 16 mm.
2. Match seals to strapping tools, manual sealers and machines
Identify the sealer and tensioner model, type of jaw or die, and design of notch or crimp. Different types and sizes of closures may be required for manual sealers, combination tools and pneumatic sealers. There are various shapes and forms of seals, including open or snap-on seals, closed seals, thread-on seals, open flange seals and push-type seals. They’re named according to their form or method of application. Names don’t denote a seal’s compatibility with a tool.
Magazine seals are used in designated strapping machines and therefore must be coordinated with the equipment to meet the requirements of size and feed. Manual tools and automatic strapping tools are different kinds of strapping equipment and can require different kinds of consumables. A seal intended for hand placement in a strapping tool may not feed through an automated strapping station. A seal with a serrated surface isn’t automatically suitable for PET, and the surface doesn’t establish that it’s stronger than other seals. A picture of the tool along with the name plate must be sent. It’s also requested to submit a drawing illustrating the complete system, with the current joint photograph and tool nameplate.
3. Request joint results for the actual strap, seal, tool combination
The breaking force of a strap joint isn’t established by the breaking force of its individual components. The tensile strength of the strap material doesn’t establish the load capacity of the completed joint. State the grade and dimensions of the strap, the seal used, the type and size of the tool used, the method of specimen preparation and where failure occurred. There are different possible outcomes, e.g. strap slippage, strap rupture and seal opening. Joint efficiency can’t be taken as acceptance of the joint without the comparison and test conditions.
For carbon-steel strapping and seals, the current published specification is ASTM D3953-15(2022); its scope excludes specialty-type and alloy-metal strapping. ASTM D3950-23 addresses nonmetallic strapping and joining methods. Neither reference means a seal is “ASTM certified.” Use the applicable specification and edition in the test request, and keep a management-system certificate separate from product performance.
Securing heavy loads, including steel beams and industrial bundles, also requires consideration of the package and handling route. ASTM D4675-14a(2022) provides selection guidance and identifies user testing as necessary. A joint test is one input; it does not by itself establish the number of straps, protection at edges or a transport loading arrangement.
4. Specify metal, coating and storage exposure
Distinguish base metal from finish. Closure surface requirements (if any) depend on the application. High resistance or strength and durability can be stated for a closure but what property or test defines that? A closure made from galvanized carbon steel can rust. Likewise, a closure made from a painted or a rust-resistant stainless steel grade can also rust. Discuss the environment to which the closure is exposed. Also, document the requirements of special alloys.
The condition of the coating after forming should be evaluated. Coating defects may adversely affect the function of the package or the strap. For a given environment, corrosion may be accelerated by a number of test methods and conditions. A test-chamber result doesn’t establish service life; record the corrosion test method, duration and acceptance criterion. Consider storage and transportation conditions to ensure that seals are fit for use upon arrival at the work station.
5. Agree incoming checks and lot identification
Agreement must be reached to identify the critical dimensions to be controlled. The revision of the drawing to be referenced must also be defined. Review incoming closures for conformance to specified dimensions and other requirements, and assess the closures’ fitness for use. Establish adequate acceptance criteria to evaluate the closures and ensure personnel in the purchasing, production and quality assurance departments reach a concurrent conclusion.
Lot labels allow delivery records to be tied to inspection and test records. What’s the supplier’s process when the press tool, the raw material source, or the finish of the part changes? What’s the supplier’s traceability process, and how is affected stock identified? Traceability helps in reducing downtime and is used to isolate questioned lots.
6. Separate minimum orders, custom tooling and replenishment terms
A reference catalog showing standard, off-the-shelf items doesn’t establish that a vendor can produce a custom seal to your specifications. The terms for a custom purchase order, including minimum order quantity and tooling charges, may differ from standard items. Are tools and dies controlled by the vendor? Are tools and dies controlled by the buyer? Is the purchased item approved for use (by the Buyer)? Are repeat items purchased to the previously approved drawing revision?
Consider the actual demand of your plant when negotiating purchase orders. What lead-time can the supplier commit? Under what conditions will the supplier guarantee delivery? Obtain sample approval and reorder terms from the vendor.
7. Compare cost per accepted joint
What’s the unit of measurement (e.g. bags, boxes) and price for seals? Are FOB terms included? What’s the tooling cost? What’s the closure cost? What’s the labor cost? What’s the remake/rejection rate?
The least expensive seal may require more sealing time, or produce an inconsistent joint. An expensive closure may not be justifiable if it provides no benefit for a given application. The cost to produce an accepted joint should be compared under the same working conditions. This article won’t attempt to set a price range, as several other variables, such as quantity required and the end-use location, will also affect the price.
8. Check whether a separate seal is needed
Some processing methods for PET and PP use friction welding, and some steel processes use sealless joining tools. If an approved method of joining eliminates the need for a seal, purchasing a seal adds an unused process consumable. Make sure you understand the tools and package requirements, and assess the offerings of strap closure manufacturers.
Other changes affected by the method of joint are tool service, package validation and operator steps. Consider the complete application when trying to upgrade tools for heavy-duty applications. Edge protectors and stretch wrap contribute to secure packaging; a suitable strap joint is still required. Refer to the guide for assessment of package testing to understand package testing and new strap components.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the best strapping seal manufacturer?
Choose by the joint system and purchasing need
The best strapping seal manufacturer depends on strap material, width, thickness, joint design, sealer model, load requirements and purchasing volume. Signode is a useful starting point for its named tool families, while specialist producers may offer a closer fit for a custom profile, small direct order or private-label carton. Use the comparison to form a shortlist, then compare the proposed products against the same drawing and sample-joint acceptance criteria before approving a repeat supply arrangement.
Which seal should I use for PET strapping?
Match the PET strap, closure and tool
The correct PET strapping seal depends on the strap dimensions, surface, joining method and tool used to form the joint. A product described as a polyester strapping seal can still have a specific width, gauge and jaw requirement. Serrated designs are used in some mechanical systems, while friction-welded PET joints use no separate seal. Start with the strap specification and tool model, then obtain the manufacturer’s matching seal code and a sample result for that combination.
What is the difference between a strapping seal and a buckle?
They secure the strap in different ways
A strapping seal is typically formed or crimped around the strap with a tool, while a buckle generally locks the strap through a threaded or looped arrangement. The distinction matters when ordering consumables: two closures with the same nominal width may require different tensioning and joining procedures. A supplier that manufactures wire buckles isn’t necessarily a strapping-seal producer. Identify the existing closure and its application method before using a catalogue’s general fastening category to select a replacement.
Is a strapping seal the same as a sealer?
The seal is consumed; the sealer applies it
The seal is the consumable closure; the sealer is the tool used to form or close that seal. An order should identify both separately, including the required jaw or die. Buying a compatible-width seal doesn’t establish compatibility with every sealer of that width.
Can the same seal be used for steel, PET and PP strapping?
Check the stated material and tool combination
Not automatically; seal compatibility depends on material, strap dimensions, surface and the joining tool. Some producers list combined PP/PET products, but that doesn’t extend to every plastic strap or steel joint. Use the selected product’s specification and test the proposed combination.
How much do strapping seals cost?
Compare like-for-like specifications and quantities
Strapping-seal prices vary with material, dimensions, profile, coating, quantity, packaging, tooling requirements and destination. Compare delivered offers using the same seal specification and piece count. Include application labour and rejected joints when judging value; a price per bag alone is an incomplete comparison.
